Hope Hospital Salford

AN EYECATCHING new £20m education centre has opened at Salford Royal Hospital.

Designed by HKS and funded as part of the PFI revamp of the wider hospital site, the Mayo Building will provide educational and clinical training facilities for staff as well as some clinical support functions including mortuary and aseptic services.

Featuring distinctive blue and grey cladding panels on the north elevation, the new building is designed to provide an important focus on the site and replaces a patient and visitors' car park, which is to be relocated. The block will also serve an important role in creating a cohesive healthcare campus with its distinctive yellow rendered stair and lift core serving as a wayfinder marker for the public.

Apollo Sealants helped create the new center with the application of specialist clean room sealants and mastics to the new wards, theaters and clean rooms.
